What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession that focuses on a manual, hands-on approach to the treatment of mechanical disorders of the neuro-musculoskeletal system.
The name ‘Chiropractic’ derives from the Greek word ‘chiropraktikos’ meaning effective treatment by hand. Chiropractic is commonly associated with the treatment of back and neck pain, however chiropractors are also consulted regarding a range of other joint and/or muscular conditions.
At KH Chiropractic we take a traditional approach to chiropractic aiming to identify and treat the cause of a pain or complaint and minimise the use of, or prolonged use of drugs.

How do I know if chiropractic is right for me?
Our Chiswick chiropractor will discuss what they have found following your chiropractic examination. They will also explain what they think is causing your complaint and explain the proposed treatment plan, including any potential risks involved. If your complaint is appropriate for chiropractic care you will be asked to provide written consent before receiving any treatment. Sometimes chiropractic care is not appropriate. Should the chiropractor feel this is the case it is likely they will refer you to your GP, or another healthcare provider.

Do I need to bring anything to my chiropractic appointment?
If you are taking any medication it is useful for you to bring the details along to your first appointment. It is also useful to bring along any x-rays, MRI’s or imaging reports that you may have, especially if they have been taken within the past couple of years.
You should also wear appropriate underwear for the appointment, as you are likely to be asked to undress down to your underwear for examination purposes. There will be the opportunity to wear a back opening gown. You could also bring along a pair of flexible shorts to wear under the gown if it makes you feel more comfortable.
We attempt to avoid delays as much as possible however sometimes patients can take longer than expected. We aim to deliver the highest care possible with every patient, occasionally this may mean a few extra minutes are needed with the individual.

Where should I go on arrival at KHChiropractic?
Liverpool Street / Aldgate Chiropractic Clinic
On arrival at 7 Toynbee Street please ring the door bell and you will be let in. Your chiropractor will be out to greet you as soon as possible.
Please enter the gym at the front door and take the stairs up. The treatment room is located on the far side of the upstairs space. Please take a seat in the first room you come into.
On your first visit you will be handed some paperwork to complete. The information requested will contain details such as your name, date of birth, address, contact details etc. You will also be asked for brief details about your general wellbeing and lifestyle, medical history, health condition, and asked to complete a pain diagram to illustrate the presenting complaint. Do not worry too much if you are uncertain what information is required, as the chiropractor will go through it in more detail during your appointment.
What can I expect to happen during the initial consultation?
The chiropractor will collect you from the reception area and escort you to a treatment room. They will go over the information you have already provided, and then take a complete medical history.
Once they have recorded all the information they need, the chiropractor may ask you to undress down to your underwear and offer you a back opening clinic gown.
This is important for assessment purposes, however if you feel uncomfortable about wearing a back opening gown, please raise your concerns with your chiropractor.
With your consent the chiropractor will carry out a thorough examination to assist with making an informed diagnosis, and consequently determine if it is appropriate for you to receive chiropractic care. The chiropractor will treat you as appropriate on the first visit. Should the chiropractor feel it is important to obtain imaging before treatment they may refer you for some appropriate imaging first. The decision will be based on the individual presenting complaint and will be in their best interests.
When will I start my treatment?
Once a full case history, complete examination and explanation of your complaint has been achieved, most patients will receive an immediate treatment. However in some cases it may be necessary to refer the patients for further imaging such as xrays, ultrasound or MRI. Alternatively it may be necessary to refer you back to your GP for other tests, or onward referral to another healthcare professional.
How many appointments will I need?
The number and frequency of appointments required will vary from patient to patient.
At KHChiropractic your improvement will be monitored very carefully on an ongoing basis to ensure that the treatment you are receiving is appropriate for you.
Things to consider that may play a part in the speed of recovery:-
- Length of time you have had your complaint prior to coming for treatment
- Severity (Are there any neurological signs? if so how advanced?)
- If you (the patient) take an active part in your recovery such as improving your lifestyle and reducing or even better eliminating causative factors.
- Stress levels (at home and or work)
Will treatment hurt?
Chiropractic treatment should not normally hurt however most patients who visit a chiropractor are already suffering from some discomfort or pain. It is very important to inform patients that they may experience some post examination, and/or post treatment soreness. These symptoms should improve within a day or two, however if anyone has any concerns they should seek advice from their Chiropractor to fully investigate.
Can I do anything to help with soreness?
Icing the area that is sore or uncomfortable can help, however the use of ice should be controlled. An ice pack, or ‘bag of peas’, should always be placed inside a thin cover (wrap in a tea towel) before placing on the skin. Ice should never be placed directly on the skin as it can burn. Ice should only be used for a maximum of 15 minutes at a time, and it should be used regularly (every few hours). If soreness or discomfort persists, the patient should seek advice from their Chiropractor.

STRICT AND ENFORCED 24 HOUR CANCELLATION POLICY!
Please understand that when you forget or cancel your appointment without giving enough notice, we miss the opportunity to fill that appointment time, and clients on our waiting list miss the opportunity to receive treatment. Since the services are reserved for you personally, a cancellation fee will apply.
- Less than 24hours notice will be charge 50% of the booked treatment cost.
- ‘NO SHOWS’ will be charged 100% of the full treatment cost.
- Appointments booked within 24 hours of the scheduled appointment which need cancelling, the client must cancel within 4 hours of the appointment time or will result in a charge equal to 50% of the full treatment charge.
The reason for this is that other patients may have been turned away due to lack of availability.
